Bruisers vs. Crawdads, August 7, 2007

"You know he's going to show up the second I erase him" - Nancy re removing ScottE's name from the lineup... he arrived moments later
"Way to stretch a single into a single!" - Randii to Jes for beating the throw it to first when the third baseman dropped her line drive
"Hey! AIM at someone when you do that!" - Nancy to Ian(LF) when he threw a ball back to the field, only to have it bypass all fielders and land in the right-field dugout, advancing runners.

It was a beautiful day and a very fun game (thanks for letting us pick on ya, Frank!) In a rare event, the Bruisers singled and doubled their way to 10 runs in the first inning, batting all the way through the lineup to reach mercy. The Crawdads swam in and out of mercy for the first few innings, then mounted a comeback in the fifth inning when down by 10 runs. Scary as it got, we were able to hold on for our third win of the season.
First inning: Ron(1B) fought the sun and won to get a popup, then Gerardo(3B) made an good throw to Ron(1B), then EricG(SS) chose Gerardo(3B) for the third out. In the second inning, Ron(1B) was a busy guy catching balls from Nancy(P) and EricG(SS) twice. In the third inning, EricG(SS) combo'd with Ron(1B) for an out, then Gerardo(3B) got one to Ron, then Gerardo caught a popup. In the fourth, the outs were Gerardo(3B) to Ron(1B), then EricG(SS) to Ron(1B), then Ian(OF) made a nice running catch after which he threw to an actual fielder. in the fifth inning we spotted the Crawdads six runs (ahem!) before the first out was recorded, then got the first out (somehow), then EricG(SS) got a ground ball to Ron(1B), and then Gerardo(3B) caught a popup for the last out.
Tonight we had no home runs or triples, demonstrating that sometimes "little ball" works better than "long ball", and everyone got at least one hit. RBIs were earned by EricG, Jose (3), Gerardo (2), Ron, Nancy (2), Randii, Ann, Ian, KarenT, and one by mystery batter in the first inning. Notable at-bats included Ian's first inning base dribble. Gerardo gets the "Good Duck" award with style points for getting back to third base while covering in case the ball came that way.
Party Notice! Our End-of-Season party will be on Monday August 27 after the last game at Ron Alley's Fabuloso Party Palace. Signups for potlucked items will begin soon.
Next week (week of August 13) we have a bye, so our next game is Tuesday August 21 where we will be the home team against the Gravity Frawgs on field HN (dirt).
