Bruisers played the Homers, yadda, yadda, yadda. It went pretty much as expected. Pitching for both teams was suckier than normal (except for Nancy, who did great). Homer catcher calls were a bit questionable, esp. on the "foul" line drives that appeared to go over the _inside_ of third base but eluded the third baseman. Unfortunately, due to the angle from the dugouts, you had to trust that the catcher was being correct and honest. During dinner it was noted that the TOADS beat the Homers by more runs (10) earlier this season than the Homers beat the Bruisers by tonight.

Defensively, we did well with balls that didn't go into the outfield (we won't talk about most of those, except to say "leaping stabs at fly balls usually result in missed balls"). I think Andrew(LF) made pretty much the only real outfield catch in the fourth inning. In the second inning Homer Jeff was hung out to dry by his aggressively inept third base coach when Steve(RF) made a great throw to BobbyJoe(C) who tagged him on his way to home. In the third inning Amber made a good (if not slightly indelicate) tag on Homer Rich when he tried to stretch his single into a double (which for some reason caused a lot of really weird cackling from the Homers dugout). Ann(2B) gets the Wickets Award for her fourth inning leaping avoidance of a ground ball. In the fifth inning, Pat(1B) made an awesome scooping catch of a throw by BobG(SS) to get a runner. Leo(3B) almost caught a line drive in the sixth inning, but it burned its way through his glove.

Offensively, this was our first game with no home runs or triples. Surprisingly, we only had the benefit of one "Richard Special Airmail" double. We did manage to take some advantage of an aging Homers team in the sixth inning to work out way out of double mercy. Steve gets the day's Sneaky Feet award for making it to second base while the fielders were trying to figure out who's turn it was to pick up the ball. RBIs were earned by Harold, Eric, Anders, BobG, BobbyJoe (2), John, Linda, and Leo

Our next game is Tuesday August 17 against the Crawdads. We'll be home team on field H7 (corner). Please be sure I know if you're coming or not.

See you then!
Karen :)
