It was a beautiful afternoon, and the footballers stayed out of the way. Unfortunately, it ended up being a very short game due to unhappy Radar babies (and lack of enough Radar adults to both field a full team and entertain the kids) and the fact that the softball equipment didn't show up until after 5:45 (game finally started ~6:00) (all things considered, the Radars technically would have forfeited anyway). Fortunately, the Bruisers were able to withstand all the wailing and gnashing of teeth and win their ninth game of the season. An interesting note... the Homers, who played the Radars last week, were only able to make their way back up to a tie by the time the Radars pulled the plug due to kid issues (hey, that tale had to be told, right? It's right there on the Homers' web page).
The first inning went quickly with a great EricG(SS)-Pat(1B) play, a good ScottM(CF) catch, and a good toss from EricG(SS) to Ann(2B). EricB made his third base debut tonight, earning a "TWO HANDS!" shout *from the other team* when he made a one-handed catch of a foul ball right in front of the Radar dugout in the second inning. The third inning was all Pat(1B) as she received throws from Juan(SS) and EricG(3B) for the three infield outs, and the fourth inning featured an Eric-Eric (B(3B)-G(1B)) out.
In a longer game, we could have gotten through the whole batting order at least twice, but as it was, it was more like 1.5 times. (More teams should have the "problem" of having more than 9 players show up, huh? ;) Trust me, it's okay with me that we have a busload of Bruisers at our games!) EricG hit the night's only home run, and BobG had a triple. RBIs were collected by KarenC(2), Randy (2), Pat, EricG (2), BobG(2). Juan gets the night's Sneaky Feet award for making it home behind Andrew on KarenC's single.
Our next game is next MONDAY, August 22 against the Wild Turkeys. We'll be the visiting team on field H7 (sewer). I believe the Reddings will still be out of town. Everyone else should be sure to let me know if you're coming or not. Standard reminder will be sent out tomorrow, with supplemental reminder on Monday for those of you tending toward having too much weekend. :)
See ya!
Karen :)
BIG NOTE: Our last game is Wednesday August 31, and I already know we'll be missing me, Linda, ScottE, BobbyJoe, Fabian, Jes, Ron, and (I think) the Reddings. If you are at all able to play that night, please do -- we don't want to forfeit due to lack of players for the last game of the season! Nancy will do the reminder for that game; please be sure to respond to her. She'll be the boss that game.
