Stuff heard during the game:
"Douglas may be all crippled, but his upper body is playing really well!"
"That was a lucky-ass catch" Turkey Mark about his center fielder
"A man would not have caught that the same way"
"ALWAYS look for the X-Man!" Ann to Juan
"Next year, I promise I'll start diving" Ann (she promised!)

It was a really fun game with our "best friend" team, the Wild Turkeys, despite having them sweep us 3-0 for the season, and us not having much of a turkey hunt. There equal amounts of razzing and joking back and forth across team lines at each other, and lots of laughing (which is as it should be!). Our apologies to Turkey scorekeeper Jack for causing confusion when we had to redo the lineup after Jessica left early - Sorry Jack!! Also, since historically we've pinned our meltdowns on someone who left the game early, tonight that gets to be Jessica. As a humorous note, the Bruiser manager received a call from the Turkey manager this morning to be told that for the first time, the Turkeys had not only outscored the Bruisers in the three games, but they also outscored the Bruisers in player count over the three games by one man and one woman. Now THAT's sports geekdom!

In the first inning, BobG(SS) tagged out the runner trying to stretch his single into a double, and Douglas(3B) caught a screaming shot down the third baseline. In the second, Douglas(3B) made another nice catch (prompting the above quote), Ron(1B) managed to catch a first-baseline pop up without mowing down KarenC(2B) - phew!, and the Rob(RF) fought the sun and won, catching a fly ball in right field. In the third inning, Randii(C) made an out at home plate with a gentle tag of Turkey Nancy after overeager Turkey Mark forced her through her third base coach's stop sign while trying to stretch what would have been a safe double into a very hazardous triple (I think that earns Mark the "Herd of Thundering Elephants" award, and Mark owes Nancy something really pretty and sparkly), Ann(SF) made a nice stretching catch, and then EricG(3B) made a good catch. In the fourth, EricG(3B) made a great running catch to get a foul fly, and then KarenC(P) made nice 2-handed catch of a ! very high pop up. In the fifth inning, Ian(LF) made a good running catch, and then EricG(SS) made a good tag to get a runner for their Turkey final out.

Defensive highlights must include EricG's 5th inning dive onto third base as an homage to Turkey Matt's belly flop from the last game. EricB gets the "Doh!" award for popping out to the (female) catcher in the second inning. BobG managed to get out of the grips of the Turkey SS who stood in the baseline and actually physically impeded him, to sprint all the way home on Jes' single. We had no home runs, and one triple by ERicG. RBIs were scored by Jes, PaulH(2), Ann, Ian (2), Juan, EricG (2), and KarenT. Four RBIs didn't get marked in; one is missing from the fourth inning and I have no idea who actually scored or who got the RBIs in the fifth inning. Maybe I can get that from the Turkey's scoresheet.

But hey - our next and final game is on Monday when we'll be the visiting team against the Paper Tigers on field HN (dirt), after which we'll have our end-of-season party at Ron Alley's Marvelous Party House. Don't forget to let me know if you're coming to the game and if you're coming to the party. Bruiser Fans, remember you're invited too - let me know if you're coming and I'll email you directions!

Have a great weekend!
