'Twas a perfect afternoon for the Bruisers-Wild Turkeys rematch. Double or nothing? Okay, we'll take it! Having been cautioned to not score all our runs in the first inning, we obeyed and waited until the third to score any runs at all. Fortunately, we were also able to hold the Turkeys to zero after the second inning, and this time THEY were the ones to fall for the "Let's make this the last inning" ploy, when we dispatched them as quickly as possible, 1-2-3. Without looking back at all the other game reports, we can be pretty sure this may be the lowest-scoring game the Bruisers have ever played. Nice way to end the season!

Defensively, we did pretty well, although a couple of plays were a tad more exciting than they probably needed to be. Several good outfield catches were made by by ScottM and EricW. Bob(SS) made a great snag to tag the runner coming into second in the first inning and very nice play to Ron(1B) in the third. Linda(SF) made a good stop and toss to KarenC(2B) to get a runner also in the third. Mary Beth(P) and Pat(1B) teamed up three times for outs, including the last two outs of the game. We won't talk about the "turn what??" play in the fourth or the near-Keystone Cops play in the sixth innings - we'll be happy that nobody ended up with a concussion because one of our resident nurses might have been one of them. ;)

Offensively, things were relatively quiet except for the fifth inning. EricW whacked our only home run of the day in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. BobG hit an almost-grand-slam triple, after which Nancy altruistically sacrificed him home. RBIs were knocked in by Ron, Don, BobG(3), Nancy, and Eric(2). Ann earned the "hang up and play" prize a couple of times. Tonight's quote from around the dugout (the field, actually) was: "Hey, be nice to your brother. Some day your parents will be old and you'll want him to take care of them".

Our next game is some time in mid- or late-April 2003. Thanks for playing this year everyone, and I hope to see you back next year!

Karen :)

*By the way, for those of you who are wondering "What the heck are Breelers"?... We don't know, but we can thank Fuddruckers, who reserved our tables with signs saying "RESERVED FOR BREELERS". Obviously, someone couldn't read someone else's messy handwriting! Good penmanship is always important. Remember that! :)
