Phew! Thank goodness for sneaky feet and our fast-running young'uns! The game almost started as a Fringe forfeit when they came in expecting only one woman. However, at 5:45 they had more women show up unexpectedly, so in the spirit of good sportsmanship we didn't push the already-conceded forfeit. It should be noted that prior to Lyna's needing to leave due to an allergic reaction, we could have fielded a full team of all women (okay, we wouldn't have actually done that, but we could have!)
It was a pretty short game, and we did well defensively in all but the fourth inning. All the outs in the third inning belonged to Bob(SS) and Jes(2B), with the first two outs came on a double play. Doug(3B) was involved in all the outs in the fourth inning, first with a good throw to Pat(1B), then with a catch of a little fly ball, then (after seven Fringe runs), he ended the bleeding by tagging the runner going to third base. There was a lot of confusion in right field during the fourth inning about whether balls were foul or not, but the bottom line is, don't quit chasing it just because you don't agree with the catcher's call.
It's good to be home team sometimes, esp. when you've let yourself get behind in the top half of that last inning! Offensively we did great, even though the shortened game left about half the team with only one at-bat. Our only home run of the night came from Steve, and we had triples from Amber and Doug. RBIs were earned by Steve (2), Andrew, Nancy, Doug, BobG, Pat, Eric, and Ron (2). Nancy gets a Sneaky Feet award for making it home from second base before the ball did in the second inning on Andrew's double. Doug also gets a Sneaky Feet award for coming home to score the winning run on Meredith's RBI. Doug demonstrated his new method of picking up babes in the third inning when he slid into third, and underneath the third base(wo)man so she landed on top of him (she got the much nicer landing than if it were the other way around, that's for sure!). That's now known as the Equils Huggy Slide.
Our next (and final for the season) is next Tuesday, August 31 against the Wild Turkeys on field H9 (water fountain). The party will be afterwards at Ron's house (email on that forthcoming). So far I know we'll be missing Earl and Andy. Everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
