Atmospheric conditions indicated the impending of end of summer (it got cold) in our last game of the season. The start of the game was delayed waiting for more Sox players to show up, and we finally got started by providing them with a catcher. The Bruisers took the lead early and held it for first half of the game, but lacking the eye candy of shirtless guys running around the Rose Bowl, gave up the lead mid-game. We almost caught up in the end, but alas darkness closed in and it was time for dinner.

Bruiser defense was on it's toes, with Renaud setting the example by backing up plays at first base not just once, but twice, from right field. Jes and Amy were rocking and rolling tonight at second base, as were the pitchers, making plenty of plays to first. Play of the Day goes to Jes and JohnK who combined for a double play in the the second inning. Gretchen looked pretty good in right field, coming back from a year off sunning herself on the Santa Barbara beaches. Offensively, the big hitter of the afternoon was Andrew who had a double and two home runs. Anders also hit a home run, and RBIs were knocked in by Gretchen (2), Andrew (4), BobbyJoe, Mikael (2), Jenn, DaveR, Anders, and Mary Beth (2). Jes gets the "Tommy Lasorda Imitation" award for heckling JohnD while he coached first base, an exceptional performance which included the traditional kicking of dirt onto the umpire's shoes.

Our next game is some time next April 2001. A monthly batting cage day has been suggested by Bruiser stockholders -- if you're interested, let me know and I'll set something up.

Thanks for coming out, everyone, and see you next Spring!!
Karen :)
