Bruisers vs. Titans, August 31, 2005

Bruisers: Randy, ScottM, Juan, Mandell**, Pat, DaveS, Dan (DaveS's son), Nancy, EricG, Andrew, KarenT**, EricB, Ann, DaveR, Jesse, Liza, and BobG.

**Karen T and Mandell loaned to the short-handed Titans, although Mandell also played one inning and batted once for us. Karen was their NON-FIELDING catcher (don't forget that point, we almost did!)

An extremely apologetic Titans manager came over and said they only expected 8 people total, 2 women. For most of the game they only had 7 people of their own, so it was a technical forfeit. But we loaned then Karen as a NON-FIELDING catcher and Mandell so we could commence the last game of the season!

It may have been the lowest scoring game ever; not until the bottom of the 5th inning were there a total of 10 runs between the teams! Although since Mandell scored or batted in 3 of the Titan runs they should really count for us. Especially since he kept throwing his REAL teammates out at first, two in the first inning! The Bruiser offense was asleep at first, with just a homerun by ErcB until the 4th, when Dave R hit a triple and Mandell got him in, but then got thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. The 5th inning featured back-to-back Bruiser home runs by Scott M and Randy. And then there's the 6th inning...Ann got a great hit and stopped on 3rd to get congratulated when Scott M, coaching 1st base, yelled across the field "SCORE, ANN!!!" as we all remembered that Karen T was NOT supposed to field! The Titans almost got there in time but Ann got her home run! At that point the score was 8-7, Bruisers down by 1 run. We got runners on 2nd and 3rd with Liza at the ! plate and 1 out - she hit a bouncer to the pitcher, who threw Liza out at first - then several Titans tried to run home to cover the plate as both our runners scored - game over, we win!

The defensive highlights are sketchy because the notes are minimal. In some inning, the outs went Nancy-Pat, Bob almost DP, then Pat. Whatever that means. In the 1st inning Ann at 2nd base made two of the outs, including a throw from her knees (NOT a roll!) to EricG. In the 3rd inning Scott fired one in from the outfield to Bob who threw home and almost got the runner- it looked great! The 6th inning outs were EricG to Pat, Ann catching a fly, and Nancy to Pat. EricB made at least one 1-handed catch at 3rd for an out and got razzed (I think there was a two-handed catch later), and Jesse made a great stop at 3rd in the 2nd inning.

RBI's were earned by EricB, Mandell, ScottM (2), Randy, Ann (2) and Liza (2).

Karen will be sending out the party reminder and DETAILED directions (Juan!) next week, remember it's Sunday the 18th in the afternoon at Ron's Party House.

Also there's a Twilight Tour at the cathouse the 17th (see website below) and Eric and I will be having a party the 24th, look for an email later about that!
